Who is your competition?

If you are a graphic designer you might mistakenly think that other designers are you competition. If you are a car manufacturer YOU might think that other car manufacturers are your competition.

 

That’s just NOT the case.

 

Think with me for a moment. Let’s walk to your mailbox. We get your mail and begin to leaf through it. What do you see?

 

Chances are, if your house is like most American’s you’ll find a couple of Credit Card offers, a SALE advertisement at a local store and direct mail pieces from 2 or 3 businesses in your area, before you ever get down to personal mail or bills, etc.

 

Do you have that picture in your mind? Good. Now look at this, EVERYONE represented in that stack of mail is YOUR COMPETITION.

 

As a designer, you have to reach an audience that is being constantly bombarded with colors, gimmicks and a plethora of information. Overwhelmed? Your competition just got bigger and tougher didn’t it?

 

Well, don’t worry. Once you know where your niche is and you continue to rise to the occassion of designing cutting edge graphics that DO compete with what "everybody" else is doing,  you’re well on your way!

 

It’s not hard. It just takes a different mindset. You can rise to the ocassion and "run with the big dogs" by remembering WHO your competition REALLY is!
